Backdrop test (1st attempt)

Hey all!

Finally I get to blog bout the backdrop test which happened sometime last week. Like I said in my previous post, the cloths was bought at a fabrics store. How much? Well, for the white cloth, it’s RM18.90/m and for the black clothRM8.90/m. Why the difference in price? Well, the white cloth was thicker than the black cloth. Couldn’t find a nice white ones with that price range. There were a few white ones…but they weren’t as white. They were slightly yellowish.

So anyway, I didn’t take the picture of the whole setup. Guess I was super excited about the first attempt. But it was pretty simple. I had 2 umbrellas on each side…45 degrees pointing down towards the subject…one mounted with an SB-800 flashlight…and the other…SB-600. Both flashes were triggered using the camera’s built in flash…and the umbrella was adjusted so that the flash would be diffused through it. Meaning it’s upside down…or the other way round…Hahaha…I’ll post some other setup pic some other time if you don’t get what I’m saying here…and the white balance was set to ‘preset’…I used the WhiBal White Balance Gray Card. It is the best white/gray card I’ve had. The D80 was hooked to a laptop…so whatever is being snapped will be displayed to the laptop straight for easy viewing. That’s cos I find it hard to trust my camera’s display. Even if I view the histogram.

Below are some pics taken. And all I played around with was a light ‘level’ and ‘tone curve’ adjustments. Took about 10 seconds for each pic. Will go into details sometime in the near future.
